Background
The Massey Tunnel has counter-flow lanes in effect to help keep traffic moving during morning and afternoon rush hours. 3 lanes northbound, 1 lane southbound and vice versa.
Solution
ONROADLED’s system was installed in 2000 with an upgrade to intelligent IPH2000i power supplies after 11 years of successful operation.
The application comprises 620 bidirectional Smartstud on-road markers with yellow LEDs, 4 power supplies and 5.6 km of cable. ONROADLED’s system not only delineates lanes, it also transmits data that induce the switch for the counter flow, including sending messages to electronic roadway signs to alert motorists of the lane operation.
