Tunel lane delineation and emergency evacuation lighting
Solution
Mount Victoria tunnel on SH1 leading from Wellington Airport into the city, is relatively short at 623m, but a very busy tunnel. The bi-directional, single bore tunnel with no emergency exits required an inteligent lighting system. The use of on-road LED markers and tunnel guidance markers ensures the road edges and lanes are clearly defined at all times. In the unlikely event of a fire within the tunnel, the lighting system will switch to evacuation mode based on the fire zone detected, and cause a pacing sequence towards the nearest and safest tunnel portal.
