PROJECT
Background
Replacement of a hard-wired on-road lighting system which had reached the end of its serviceable life and had issues caused by water ingress and corrosion.
Solution
The issues of the existing system are caused by characteristics of wired systems, which can be avoided by using an inductive-powered system. Especially electrical joints in wiring was prone to problems caused by ingress of road surface water. ONROADLED provided 714 bi-directional intelligent LED road marker (red) from its product line Smartstud®, 14 intelligent IPH2000i Power supplies and 4km cable.
The first stage was completed in March 2011. Another section, the Tamar bridge will start in Q1/2012. The Saltash Tunnel is a road tunnel on the A38 at Saltash in Cornwall UK, is 410m long, and was opened in 1988. The tunnel is used by more than 38,000 motorists per day and is 410 m long. The central lane operates as a reversible lane to cope with holiday and rush hour traffic.
