PROJECT
Background
In 1996, the world’s first inductively powered LED road marker system was installed in the Terrace tunnel, Wellington. At this stage it was delineating the centre line. An upgrade in 2001 added a second lane to separate with white Smartstuds®. The Tunnel has been upgraded in 2012.
Solution
As a result of 11 year reliability, the Tunnel operator’s decision was easily made and decided to install 3i Traffic’s inductively powered system for Wellington’s busiest Tunnel. The system comprises flush-mounted iiiLEVEL road markers, with uni-/bi-directional light direction and red and white LEDs. The intelligent iiiLEVEL road markers provide dimming functions for day and night time adaption as well as emergency functions with all sides (light directions) on.
